How to make a bow? Not a toy, not a stick that will break after a few “shots”, but a fully useful and

efficient weapon capable of throwing arrows for significant distances? 

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been asking myself these questions since I was a kid.

I was truly fascinated by archery and always wanted to study the craft of a bowyer.

Now, after a few years of practice, still with a lot of work ahead,

I can say this topic is not that simple as it may seem to be.

In this article, I will share my thoughts and experience on the basics of bow making.

In today’s article, I will show you one of the methods of stringing and unstringing traditional bows.

A step-through method that I’m talking about is the most preferred by me.

I find it very easy and pretty safe. It is useful for stringing all type of bows.

Nevertheless, it requires a bit of strength and I wouldn’t recommend it to very powerful bows.

A wooden bow was successfully used by the man for thousands of years.

It was a precious tool, very helpful in order to survive during tough times,

either by hunting the game or fighting the enemy. As a traditional craftsman

studying the art of bow making, I love building bows inspired by ours

ancestors heritage. As you may know, people around the world

have developed many types of this weapon. They significantly differ

from each other, not only in material, but also in shape and size.

Many people, getting interested in bow making, expect big

expenses on tools and machines to be able to build a functional bow.

The truth is, an advanced equipment may make the process easier and quicker,

but it’s not necessary at all. What if I told you,

you can reduce the list of tools required tools to make

a fully efficient and durable bow to the single one?

– a Penobscot style triple bow.
